An old farm remedy is to place things in your tree to frighten the squirrels away. This will also help in keeping birds away from your fruit as well. Anything that is shiny, like tin cans or bottles or even plastic bags you get from the grocery store. Hang these in your tree. A lot of people don't like to do this because they think it looks trashy. You can get creative with it to make it look more appealing. You could make or buy stain glass ornaments, (not just Christmas ornaments). You can also purchase life size plastic owls from a garden center. The squirrels and birds are apprehensive about owls because they are a fierce predator. Even skunks fear owls because the Great Horned Owl is the only known predator to prey on skunks. The plastic owls come in a variety of price ranges. The more realistic that have some movement powered by wind are the most expensive. It just depends on what your willing to spend. These are the most humane. I personally look at it like this. The squirrels and birds need to eat too. I just leave them alone. My trees produce more than my family and friends can use. But I know they can cause a lot of aggravation. So if you don't want to harm the little critters or give them a mouthful of pepper then try the scare tactics. It just goes back to what our ancestors have done for hundreds of years. Use a scarecrow. Is there any way to keep squirrels away from a tree (cherry, apple, etc.)?
That's easy....full ears of corn...placed in ';other'; locations...they will feed on the corn and leave everything else alone.
had the same problem except with plants...hate those little buggers..
