What must be done to keep squirrels and tree roots from distroying our septic tank %26amp; leechfield ?

We live at 6000 feet above sea level. We don't want to kill either of them, just deter them... ?What must be done to keep squirrels and tree roots from distroying our septic tank %26amp; leechfield ?
What do you have, burrowing squirrels? I can't imagine squirrels doing damage otherwise to a properly built leach field. Are they eating the pump wiring%26gt; As for the trees, you are going to have to either selectively remove roots or trees. You could do a narrow trench along side the leech field and tank and cut the roots down several feet and then refill the trench, either with the dirt taken out or with a material recommended by an arborist to block roots or sheet metal installed before the back fill.

You are intruding. Your leech field and tank are intruding. Nature wants to keep on growing. So you must accept some of the consequences of your intrusion. You might price composting sewage systems.
